The t-Virus

After I got a positive reaction posting this on Reddit, I decided to make a blog for crazy drinks I come up with. As a huge fan of video games, the zombie genre, and alcohol, I wanted to make a drink based on the walking dead. I thought the t-Virus vial from Resident Evil would be great to mimic. There were some others I had seen in the past, using licorice in place of the iconic double helix. For making a quick version of a t-Virus shot, I definitely recommend going this direction. However, I wanted mine to be made entirely of alcohol.

Here is what you'll need:
2oz. Blue Curacao / Midori (or other green colored melon liqueur, pucker comes out too light.)
1/4 tsp Agar powder.
Tall, 2oz. shot glass.
Small frying pan.
A food grade syringe.
Silicone tubing that fits your syringe. (1 foot minimum)
Spatula or spoon.
Glass of ice water.
You can use whatever liquor(s) you like for the shot, just make sure it's clear. I'm using a citrus-flavored vodka.

First, bring the curacao/midori to almost a boil in the pan. Remove from the heat and sprinkle the Agar powder in and mix it in with your spoon/spatula. It will disolve pretty quickly.

Take your syringe, and suck the liquid into it. Try to avoid getting any air bubbles. Attach the tubing, and inject the liquid into it.

Remove the tubing and submerge it in the ice water. Wait about 5 minutes for it to solidify. You can then fill another tube or just discard any remaining liquid. You may notice any left over in the pan has already begun to gel.

Looks so cool
After 5 minutes, remove the tubing from the water. Fill your syringe with air, reattach the tubing and use the syringe to push the "noodle" out. It will have the same characteristics as spaghetti, bend it too far and it will break. Cut two sections out about 5-6 inches in length.

Empty glass with double helix
There's two ways to get it in the glass. You can wrap the helixes around the inside of the empty shot glass, then slowly fill with the vodka. If they keep falling down, the other way is to fill the glass with the vodka, make one helix, then make the other. There's no real trick to this part; sometimes it works right away and sometimes it takes some trying. You'll be able to do one twist before the weight of the noodle is too much and it will sink.

There you have it! Be careful not to choke on the gel strands. If you choke and die I can't gaurantee this will resurrect you into a blood thirsty zombie or otherwise.
